Keeps your flow.
In the old days, many people only used the rear brake out of caution or fear. The new Bosch eBike ABS* now lets you brake more safely and confidently with both brakes at the same time. It can prevent the front wheel from locking and thus help to avoid skidding. You remain safely in the saddle even during sudden heavy braking – whether you are on firm asphalt or slippery gravel paths. Because every eBike is different, there is no one-size-fits-all ABS. Instead, there's the right ABS for your eBike type, supporting your braking process in the best possible way.
*Bosch eBike ABS is only available in the following countries: all countries of the European Union, United Kingdom, Switzerland and Norway.
How does ABS work?
eBike ABS from Bosch enables more efficient braking. Bicycle brakes have become stronger over the years (hydraulic disc brakes). eBike ABS was developed to control their performance, particularly in critical (emergency) braking situations. Wheel speed sensors on both wheels can detect when the brakes lock and the braking force is automatically adjusted via software and control. This reduces the risk of being thrown over the handlebar on high-grip surfaces and of falling on slippery surfaces.
Rear wheel lift control
In the event of extreme overbraking of the front wheel, the intelligent Bosch eBike ABS rear wheel lift control reduces the possibility of unwanted lifting of your rear wheel. The likelihood of being ejected over the handlebar is reduced. The front brake can be used more actively and efficiently.
Front wheel ABS
Wheel speed sensors monitor the speed of the wheels. If locking of the front wheel is anticipated during excessive braking, Bosch eBike ABS controls braking pressure and improves the riding stability and steerability of the eBike – this is particularly evident on slippery surfaces. Well-coordinated and sensitive braking behaviour significantly increases control and stability.
Retrieving braking statistics
The Kiox 300 display can be used to retrieve information about your braking behaviour. If the front brake is used, the braking distance and braking time are recorded and can be displayed; this gives you a sense of how a different surface can affect your braking distance - compare the braking distance on gravel or asphalt, for example. Analyse your braking and improve your braking performance.
Mountainbike
The BOSCH EBIKE ABS is now available on our mountainbikes and is ready for trail use. Riding on the edge can be pushed even further with this feature. Due to the highly sensitive and rapid ABS control, unintentional lifting of the rear wheel is largely prevented, and the risk of a rollover caused by an excessively braked front wheel is eliminated. The improved contact of the rear wheel with the ground significantly enhances the bike's stability. The use of ABS on mountain bikers is made possible by the powerful Magura CT Disc ABS four-piston brake.
On the E-Bike, there are a total of three different ABS modes:
ALLROAD - In this mode, the system intervenes early and comprehensively in the braking process. The braking distances are extended. Allroad is a mode specifically designed for rides on light terrain, allowing for a more carefree and safer biking experience.
TRAIL - In Trail mode, the e-bike remains fully capable on the trail, with minimal front wheel slippage during braking and only a slight increase in braking distances. This mode is suitable for challenging trails trails and demanding terrain. Riding becomes more controlled and focused. This way, you can refine your riding skills and improve performance on the trails while staying safer on the bike.
OFF - The ABS is turned off. This is indicated on the display by placing the letter ABS in parentheses.
